Hello all!
I've asked the SLC this question many, many times but I always get a weird answer or the staff, for some reason, can't get their head around what I'm asking. Uni have been particuarly useless, too.
Basically, I am in my third year at Uni and I have a non-income assessed loan. If I had gone with income assessed when I first got involved with the SLC in Feb 2007 (so the spring before I went to Uni) I would have got ZILCH, because on paper it looks like my parents are loaded.
Same deal with the second loan I applied for.
The third loan I applied for was, again, the same thing although this time I was living with my boyfriend but had a funny feeling they'd try and take his earnings into account if I went income assesed.
This is the tricky bit. I applied for my third year finance in April 2009 literally a week before finding out I was pregnant. There is no option on the forms anyway to say 'I am knocked up, help please', but I did call up the SLC in June and explained that halfway through my third year I would have a dependant. They told me I would be entitled to more financial help as a result of this, and then through that would be able to recieve a grant through Uni. But, how is this possible if all my loans for this year have been approved and set in place? Are they talking rubbish? The baby is due in about 6 weeks, so when I go back in January my circumstances will have TOTALLY changed. I may even need to take a year out, who knows, but it would be nice if I could get some guidance on this? Perhaps from someone whose had a similair experience?
Thanks in advance!
